Sherif's primary area of interest clinically is sickle cell disease (SCD). My major research focus relates to health services and outcomes research, in particular the use and implementation of technology-based interventions and wireless health devices in different settings. His short-term goal is to obtain a career development award toward becoming an independent, externally funded clinical investigator in non-malignant hematology and become an expert in mobile health (mHealth) and behavioral intervention research methodology. His longterm goals are to become a leader in the field of pediatric SCD and implement technology-based interventions for monitoring and improving patient reported outcomes (PROs), medication adherence and self-management skills in patients with SCD and other chronic complex conditions. His related long-term research goals are to better understand and treat hemoglobinopathies through outreach initiatives.
